City of Houston - Trash Collection Guidelines
 
Household waste and yard trimmings are collected every Monday Recycling is collected every other Monday. Call 311 to request a recycling schedule, a replacement trash bin, or a recycling bin.  Heavy Trash (junk & tree debris) is collected the second Friday of each month.

Automated Garbage (collected every Monday)
Place roll out bins on the curb no earlier than 6 p.m. on the day preceding collection, and remove them from curb by 10 p.m. after collection. Ensure there is a minimum of 6 ft. of clearance on either side of the bin.

Recycling (collected every other Monday)
Recycling is collected every other Monday. Call 311 to request a recycling schedule or a recycling bin. The recycling schedule for Oak Estates is Monday-A.

Place newspaper, magazines, telephone books, aluminum and tin cans, junk mail, corrugated cardboard, plastic soft drink, milk and water containers, together in the green recycling bin. Used motor oil should be placed in clean containers with screw-on tops and set out beside the bin.  Recycling may also be taken to the Westpark Recycling Center, 5900 Westpark at Fountainview, just outside Loop 610. This convenient drive-through facility is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and city personnel will unload your car for you.

Yard Waste (collected every Monday)
Place yard trimmings in compostable bags beside automated bins for collection on Mondays. Small branches should be tied in bundles no longer than 36 inches. For more information on the city's new compostable bag program visit  

Tree and Junk Waste  (2nd Friday of each month)
Tree and junk waste is collected in alternate months on the 2nd Friday. Place unwanted appliances, furniture, heavy branches/tree debris, and over-sized items on the curb no earlier than 6 pm of the Sunday preceding the scheduled collection day.  In Junk Waste months tree debris is also collected.

Hazardous Waste
Household hazardous waste or residential electronic scrap items should not be placed on the curb with or in your container for collection with garbage or heavy trash pickup. These items should be taken to the City of Houston Environmental Service Center at 11500 South Post Oak, just south of Loop 610. The center is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and the second Saturday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The ESC accepts most household hazardous wastes such as anti-freeze, batteries, fuel, oil, paint, pesticides and household cleaners. Electronics such as monitors, CPUs, televisions, and VCRs will also be accepted.
